happy birthday giveaway!

so it is my birthday on thursday! i will be 33 years old. wow. because you are all so very dear to me, i would like to give you a present for my birthday. i am giving away this, the "rustic nuance" bracelet, in prehnite with epidote (because you know it is my favorite!)

i have found that as i have gotten older and have had my dear children, my own birthday doesn't have as much significance as it once did. do you know what i mean? i used to so anxiously await it and now it is little more than just another day. can you please help me to reclaim some of the lost beauty of a birthday?

in order to enter the giveaway, just leave a comment here, telling me either your favorite birthday tradition or your favorite birthday memory. it has to be about your own birthday though. and, in order to be entered more than once in the giveaway, become a "follower" on the side bar here, or sign up to "like" me on facebook. (if you are already a dear follower, just remind me and i will enter you twice!)

thank you all so very much! as i did last time, i will write all of your names onto a piece of paper, put them in a bucket, and allow hazel to select the winner. i will announce that lucky lady this friday!

  1. Hmm..well, I never look forward to my birthdays...I don't know why, but they are just never good days. BUT..this last birthday (when I turned 33 too!) in November, my Mom made it extra special by cooking me a fabulous dinner and surprising me with a cake...candles and all. I felt like I was 10 years old again...I loved it. :) Happy Birthday to YOU (a little early)...I hope it is a GREAT one!

  2. Happy Birthday !!! I love the bracelet ! My favorite color as well. I remember my birthday when I was young and I got this crocheted purse - green of course- totally a hippi bag and then a monkey that had velcro feet to wrap around me. I always felt I missed my birthday since it falls right after Christmas but that one I had in the summer one year and it was the best.

I love my birthdays! My husband and kids always makes me feel extra special. I love to receive my kids' homemade cards and gifts and my husband always takes me to my favorite restaurant for dinner. I'm grateful just to spend my day with the ones I love!

I hope you have a wonderful birthday with the ones you love!

  6. alot of begging. lol My sisters birthday is in November (right around Thanksgiving) and my mothers is December 28 with her anniversary the day before. I guess she decided that I could be allowed one birthday in the summer the next year. Usually I got stuck sharing mine with my sister. No one every wanted to come to my birthday because they had just finished Christmas and parents didn't want to go buy more gifts at that time. It was my most remembered birthday for me. My birthday is January 8th

  9. Birthdays used to be a lot more special. As the years go on it is the simplest things that I miss the most and even though loved ones try to make the day special they often forget the two things that mean the most. When I was little my mom used to wake me up singing happy birthday with a candle in a muffin or a bagel or something. I would start the day out with a wish and a song. Big presents and fancy meals just aren't the same-although, I have come to find that a hug and a kiss from my daughter is just as special, especially now that she just about knows all the words to the Happy Birthday song!Happy Birthday Kristi, I hope your wish comes true! P.S. I'm pretty sure I'm already a follower...

  10. Lovely Bracelet, and Happy Birthday!
My Birthday is always around memorial day weekend so I always get to spend it somewhere cool. Like this year, my 30th, I was in Moab with my sisters, and I got some really fabulous jewelry, thanks! I love that everyone gets to party for my birthday.

  11. Ohhhh, I love givaways! I never win, but I sure like to join in! I love, love, love that bracelet!!!

Best birthday ever was when I started going out with my husband. Our first date was a horseback ride on the beach, about a week before my birthday. I have always said, he is the best present I ever got :)

    Happy Birthday!

  14. Happy Birthday! I love my birthday (feb 27). I look forward to it for months. This past year happened to be the best yet - we happened to be on vacation in Cancun! That being an exception, I'd say the past few years have been especially fun. It it falls on a weekday my husband will take the day off and we hit the town doing all sorts of crazy things-Science Museum/Omni Theater, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Cheesecake Factory (for the completely orgasmic Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake), dinner or lunch out...things of that sort. I'm not big into expensive gifts - I prefer memories! I hope you have a fantastic day : )

  16. Hi Kristi!
    Happy BE-Day!
My tradition now that I get to live here in the beautiful San Juans is attending Blues and Brews in T-ride. It falls right before my Be-Day and Scott always gets me the full pass for my birthday so I can spend it groovin' to my favorite bands. Oh and subtracting 20 years from the age my birth certificate says I am...I'll be 28 this year :-P
Hugs from your devoted FB follower Tracy

  17. Happy Birthday Kristi!!!
I have always loved birthdays...mine and everybody elses! It's a special day just for YOU. My birthday is on the Ides of March. My Mom always had a "homemade" party for me. Funny games, hats made by Mom of crepe paper, cake and ice cream and nut cups with gumdrops *remember nut cups? (I'm old enough to be your mother.)

My most memorable bithday was when I was 33, I gave birth to my second daughter the night before. My husband and I celebrated my birthday with cake and (a little bit of) champagne in the hospital, as we got acquainted with my extra special birthday gift!
Thanks for this fun walk down memory lane.
    I love/want your bracelet. I am a follower, too.
Go out and make some memories..Celebrate! :)

  18. Happy happy birthday! I am turning 33 this year too in November! I think my favorite birthday memory was being in New Zealand on my honeymoon so not only was I with the love of my life whom I'd just married but I got to celebrate both occasions in a completely amazing place! Love the bracelet, love everything you make for that matter :) I happily became a follower of your blog and facebook. Thanks and have a lovely birthday on Thursday!

  19. Gorgeous bracelet Kristi! Happy early birthday. One of my most memorable birthdays was the year I turned 23, I really wanted to be 26 for some reason, so that's how old I told everyone I was. Ever since then I can't remember how old I really am. That year my friends threw me a party. But somehow when they invited the girls and the guys, they told them two separate days. So, the guys all came to the party on Friday night. It was just me and my friend Marie with about 10 guys. What a hoot! I got to be the center of attention! The next night the girls all showed up and we had a girls night. (ps: I'm a follower on FB and your blog) {{{Kristi}}}--those are virtual hugs!

  20. Hmmm...birthdays hu? We'll one I remember was when I was turning 7 my parents had all my friends line up in a row and hold hands with me on one end. Then all the kids wrapped around me like a spiral and gave me a birthday 'hug'. It's one of my fondest childhood memories for some reason?

PS I'm a follower and a facebook fan!

  21. I had a special birthday last year, the heavens opened up on the San Juan River and let us see desert waterfalls and flash floods. This year my little buddy found me a heart rock. happy birthday, lots of birthday folks in dolores this week.

  22. Happy Birthday! Birthday's are the best. It is basically an entire day on which everyone tells you that they are happy you are alive and in their life. I think that is all "happy birthday" really means anyway.

  23. My partner and I always make Rocky Road icecream for birthdays - you chop up jellybabies and mix them with mini marshmallows and white choc chips, then smoosh the whole lot into vanilla icecream. It's decadent, hence it being a special occasion deal, but SO delicious!

  26. Ahhh...when I turned 21 in August 1991 I thought the highlight would be buying my first six-pack, but to my surprise the best was yet to come. My friend and I were walking on the beach. He suddenly started taking his clothes off and ran in the water. There was so much phosphorus in the water that night he looked like a golden dolphin swimming in the moonlight. It was like the movie Cocoon when they were in the water glowing. I joined him the glowing swim. Thanks for letting me share one of my most magical life experiences. Happy
Birthday. I became a fan on facebook.

  27. My favorite birthday memory happened about five years ago when I answered the door and my son's girlfriend was holding a pie in her hands.

She said, "Happy Birthday I made this for you". It was my favorite, Lemon Meringue Pie and it was gorgeous.

I will never forget it. She looked so sweet and happy and btw they are still dating and I am still crazy about her.

I think it is my favorite birthday memory because it was different and instead of cake I received a pie!

  29. Well Happy Birthday!
My best birthday was my most recent one in January. I spent the day reading and drawing and my husband made my requested dinner, shrimp scampi, while my kids took care of everything else around the house. It doesn't sound very spectacular but it was really what I needed - one long refreshing day with no obligations.

Ma favorite birthday souvenir is when my boyfrient organised a special evening and took me out to the Lion King musical. Here in hamburg you get to the venue after a 5 minutes boat trip on the Elbe. It was magical!

  31. I was actually just thinking about this the other day. my son has just turned 4, and it made me remember my 4th birthday party. I am 32, and don't remember many of the parties I had growing up, even though mom usually threw me one. my favorite cousin gave me a my first barbie. it had a pink and white gingham skirt that I thought was absolutely beautiful. after the party mom took me to the fabric store and we found a green and white fabric that was similar so she could make me one too.

  32. I have a birthday fortnight! For the week before and week after my birthday, I'm allowed lots of little indulgences (my husband has to drive instead of me, I won't feel guilty about my trip to the coffee shop, etc.). It makes the entire experience seem happier!

  34. Happy Birthday, Kristi! I hope you are having a great birthday today!

My birthday is in July and I get to spend my birthday on the beach most years! Last year, we traveled to the beach on my birthday and we will do the same this year! I love the ocean, so there is no better place that I would rather be than on the beach. The piece that you made me reminds me of the ocean because of the color of the stone. I love it! :)

I enjoy following your blog and I am your friend on facebook. Enjoy your much needed vacation time soon!

  35. Happy Birthday, and thanks for the chance. Our family has a tradition that the b-day person wakes up and comes downstairs to a decorated table. There will be a handmade birthday poster, balloons, streamers, handmade card, and a small gift. These decorations stay up for a while...we enjoy the celebratory mood.

  36. My 14th Birthday party included my closest group of friends. Staying up late, gossiping and "T-P-ing" my crush's house! The greatest thing about it was we enjoyed each other for who each of us were.
Isn't that supposed to be what Birthdays are about anyway??

  38. Happy Birthday!!!

I always get a little morbid on birthdays, mine especially, so I think my favorite tradition is to have a low-key, reflective day, preferably with a long walk, a bubble bath, and hearing from friends, sometimes with a small dinner with close people...

  39. I am also a near Christmas Baby and always felt cheated. Always. My gifts were usually small and it stated that the good gifts would come at Christmas. I always wanted to cry and throw a tantrum!
As I aged and got married I hoped I wouldn't have the same issue and I haven't. My best Birthday present was going into labor with my first born on my Birthday! I did spend a day and a half in labor but he is still my Birthday present and now we both make sure the other has a splendid Birthday!

  43. Christina - xristya@rock.com - The energy that is you translates into action, and because there is only one you your set of actions throughout your lifetime are unique! I had one very bad year, deaths, illnesses, etc., so that when my birthday came around I gave MYSELF a present, and now I look back at that year fondly because my birthday WAS acknowledged! Only YOU can show your uniqueness to the world, and this is partly celebrated by your birthday, the day that you were born and became YOU, so be happy that you're here, even if life has trials and tribulations, because you never know when something wonderful might just happen to you!

  44. I hope I'm in time!! Will catch up on your posts asap, but wanted to get this one!

My favourite birthday tradition is the Hobbit one of giving everybody else presents, or it would be if we humans did it! Other than that, it's the little things, dinner with friends, a gift you weren't expecting which has been made or chosen with love. I like things to treasure, the small gifts and the knowledge that people care.

  46. i LOVE birthdays and i make a crazy big deal out of them. i take the whole week as "mine" and go to dinner and eat cake and generally live it up. but this year... i turned 25 and i had a quiet dinner with family and a low-key get together with friends and i realized that matters so much more than all of the hoopla. :)
